Fuentealbilla to honour famous son Iniesta with bronze statue

The statue of the Barça star will be unveiled on Friday at 21:00. The player will be joined by the town’s mayor at the event.

Barcelona midfielder Andrés Iniesta will be honoured by his home town on Friday in an event organized by the Castilla-La Mancha Barcelona supporters’ club. A bronze statue of the player will be unveiled in Fuentealbilla by local mayor, Ángel Salmerón.
Castilla-La Mancha supporters’ club spokesman Daniel Peinado explained that the statue of Iniesta is their way of thanking the player for “the values and affection he has always shown towards his people”.
Peinado hopes that around 3,000 fans will join Iniesta at the unveiling – an act which he feels the player fully deserves “for what he has achieved in the game, for his down-to-earth attitude and for the comradeship he has always shown”. He also recalled Iniesta’s gesture to his good friend Dani Jarque at 2010 World Cup South Africa. “To do something as thoughtful as that, remembering his friend at that moment shows what a big heart Andrés has got and is one of the reasons why he deserves our tribute”.
