Barcelona with no word from Bayern or Thiago

The player is keeping a low profile and it is unknown whether he has been negotiating with the German outfit.

With just a few days left before FC Barcelona begin the pre-season, nobody at Camp Nou has heard any news from Bayern Munich. Officials expected to be contacted by the German club today in connection with their proposed bid to sign Thiago Alcántara but no phone calls have been received. Pep Guardiola publicly announced on Thursday that he hoped to have the Barça star under wing for the start of the new season but no official offer has emerged.
Bayern CEO Karl-Heinze Rummenigge did call Barça president Sandro Rosell on Friday to state the club’s intentions but first the two parties must reach a formal agreement – either that Barça agree to let the player go or Bayern comply by paying Thiago’s retention fee, as they were forced to do last summer with Javi Martínez.
The general consensus in Barcelona is that Thiago will be playing in the Bundesliga this season. Zubizarreta and Bartomeu have discussed the issue with Rosell and Tito Vilanova and Barça’s backroom staff are already considering who to bring in as a replacement with Sergi Roberto the preferred choice.
